Random Video Game Rant & Madden 09

When I think of video games for my PS3, I usually think of them based upon a timeframe for which certain games come out.

For example, being a huge sports fan, in the spring time, I look forward to MLB The Show, a baseball game coming out, which results in my summer baseball fix. Playing this game throughout the summer prooves to be a fun chore, as getting through a 162 game season is always an interesting task (one I am currently trying to do with the Minnesota Twins).

When the summer is over, fall hits and then the gaming shifts to football season, as both NCAA/Madden football games get released. Being the sucker I usually am, I purchase both games made by EA Sports and play football games during the brisk fall months. Finally when winter draws near, I get my hands on the new NHL/NBA video games that have come out for the year.

Sure, I also occaisionally buy games that come out once every couple years such as GTA IV, Burnout and Hot Shots Golf, but for the most part, I purchase sports games in a yearly cycle, as each year I buy 3-5 sports games in a year cycle. I always seem to buy the game after it comes out, and when that sports season is over, that game either gets sold, or it begins to collect dust in my DVD rack.

Seems like each year gets divided up into four different parts, as throughout the whole year, I at some point am sucked into a vortex of gaming pleasure. If it be baseball season, then yes, I will be playing a baseball video game, or once the snow falls, I tend to switch over to hockey.

Anyways, with that random rant aside, Madden season is coming, as in just a couple of months, Madden 09 gets released with you know who...Brett Favre on the cover. Anyways, the staff over at IGN.com has been posting some preview information and this year's game is looking to be very good. On this great Friday, take some liberty out of your day to check out the below link which previews Madden 09:

Saving Gas...The Hypermiling Way

With gas prices up in arms currently, I've noticed a lot of information lately about a driving technique called hypermiling. For those of you who don't know what hypermiling is, Urban Dictionary defines it as:

"Driving techniques and car mods aimed at increasing your gas mileage to
the absolute max. Often practiced with a Toyota Prius or other hybrid
vehicle." - Urban Dictionary Definition of Hypermiling
With gas prices currently priced at over $4.00, the idea of hypermiling is beginning to take off across the United States. The person who is credited with coming up with the idea of hypermiling, currently gets nearly doubled the average MPG for a Honda Accord, as he is getting 50 miles per gallon.

While you don't exactly need a hybrid vehicle to be able to hypermile, its an interesting concept nonetheless that I will be trying with my new 2008 Civic Si that I recently purchased. Currently, I have been getting 30mpg out of my car, which has an estimated 22-29 mpg. Having not really employed many hypermiling tactics, it will be interesting to see how high my gas mileage goes once I decide to lay off the accelerator/brakes and drive the Hypermile way.

Below are some Hypermiling links for your enjoyment :)

KJ Leads Mayor Race in California

Turns out Kevin Johnson's bid to become the next mayor of Sacramento, California is no joke. As I mentioned a few months ago in my blog, the former Phoenix Suns point-guard was running to become the next mayor of the city of Sacramento, and he is currently leading the race, and will be part of a November run-off to determine who will be the next mayor of Sacramento.

"Former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson survived his first political test
Tuesday, forcing a runoff election against the two-term incumbent in
California's capital city." - ESPN.com

Looks like we may now have two celebrities involved with politics in California if this all goes as planned for KJ.
