Valleyfair...not your average Amusement Park

Wow, the story published the other day about the six people beating up a daughter’s father at Valleyfair makes one realize how sick of a world we live in today. To do something that degrading to somebody who is simply enjoying a night out with his family is downright wrong.

For those of you who did not see this story, on July 4, here is a direct link to the story from the Minneapolis Star Tribune website.

Dad who shielded daughter in attack at ValleyFair recovering

In looking at this story, first and foremost, I truly hope these attackers who will be prosecuted in the court of law get what they deserve, especially the person who sexually assaulted the 12-year old girl in the parking lot, seemingly starting this whole ordeal. To sexually assault a teenage girl in front of her father requires bold, pathetic, lifeless individual.

Secondly, the people involved in this classless act of beating up one man to a point where he is unresponsive goes to show how classless Minnesotans and people in general can be at any given time. Many people associate people from our state to be very nice, as many of us are, but at the same time, people from the land of 10,000 lakes can be classless people as well.

Third, while reading the article, one thing I noticed was that there was no description of how long this beating went on. If the father who was defending his daughter became seriously injured and knocked unconscious, odds are this beating went on for quite awhile before security could be summoned. I know Valleyfair does not have security officers roaming the parking lots, but given the injuries to the father, makes one question not only how long the beating went on but how good the security at Valleyfair is when situations like this occur. Also, why didn't anybody step in to help this guy out??? I know its intimidating as hell that you have a bunch of gangbangers jumping a parent, but at the same time if some people were to have tried to stop the fight, it would have not ended up being as bad as it was.

Finally, having something of this magnitude occur at what is classified as a “family amusement park” is something that just makes me sick. No wonder why took Valleyfair over a week to break this news to media outlets. Many people think Valleyfair is a great place to bring the family for a day of fun, and yes, that is true. At the same time, it’s also a place where events such as acts of violence, personal belongings are stolen and other negative things make one not want to take their family there.

Combine this story, and the fact that earlier this year, I had my new cell phone stolen from a ride at this well-known Minnesota destination makes me really hate ValleyFair in general. They can air all the ads they want about their 54 rides and 9 rollercoasters, and how great of a place it is, but it is one amusement park you will not find me at anytime soon.
