Good Luck Charm?

This past weekend, I went on a mini-vacation to Chicago for 4 days to visit my relatives who live out there. While I was there, I was lucky enough to be able to go to Wrigley Field and catch a Cubs game.

They played the Arizona Diamondbacks, in an afternoon game, and upon getting to the ticket window, the only tickets available were standing room only since the game was sold out. So my mom and I decided to buy the standing room ticket, and ended up standing against a wall on the lower level for part of the game, and it provided a great sightline to the game (we later found some empty seats which made it even better).

The game itself was good from start to finish. In the second inning, former Twins catcher Henry Blanco hit a two run homer to put the Cubs ahead 2-0, and from there on out, they relied on Mark Prior’s pitching to give them a 2-0 lead through six innings. In the 7th and 8th innings though, Prior ran into some trouble and blew the lead, so after 8 innings, the D-Backs were up 3-2. Going into the 9th, I was almost certain the Cubs would lose, seeing they usually don’t recover from blown leads.

In the bottom of the 9th though, the Cubs got their first two batters on base, and then tied the game with one out, with Michael Barrett pinch-hitting a single through the infield. With one out still, and runners on first and second, the Cubs sent up another pinch hitter in Aramis Ramirez. He then hit a pinch-hit single as well that went into the outfield, and Jose Macias, ran from second base to beat the throw to home, and the Cubs won 4-3.

I’m not jumping to any conclusions, but seeing them come back from that deficit made me think that I am the reason why the Cubs rallied and won. I have been to three baseball games total this year (two Twins games) and each time, the home team has won…so I am undefeated at 3-0 now. Maybe I am the good luck charm after all.
