Lebron Joins 10,000 point club...who knew???

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain. What do the following players have in common? Yes, they are some of basketballs greatest players to ever put on a uniform, but more importantly they are currently the top leading scorers in NBA history, having each scored 30,000+ points.

Many basketball enthusiasts would say that players like Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade will etch their names into the 30,000 point club someday, but one name that seems to be ignored as a possibility is LeBron James.

Ever since Michael Jordan joined the 30,000 point club a few years ago, people have wondered who will become the next version of MJ. Sure some players have come along and tried to play the part. You have players like Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter who have all tried to replicate what Jordan has done, but LeBron James so far has done it one step better than they have. Lets just face it...LeBron is the next big thing in the NBA and his nickname "The Chosen One" reflects that.

Tonight, James scored his 10,000th career point, and is on track to become a member of this elite club by the time he retires from the NBA. He is also the youngest player to score 10,000 points in NBA history, which hypothetically means if he plays in the NBA long enough, he will also become the NBA's All-Time Leading Scorer. One might immediately think that, but if it were not for me taking the time to listen to a sports radio segment commenting on LeBron's achievement, I probably would have overlooked it.

What I'm basically ranting about is that LeBron James clearly gets overlooked by the NBA, whether its media, fans or fellow players. As I wrote this article, I logged onto ESPN.com to get some information about the historic night for King James, and he even played second fiddle on the main page at ESPN. What was even worse was that the lead headline was about Sam Cassell getting traded to Boston. I also logged onto CBS Sportsline, and their homepage was too busy highlighting the phenomenon that is Spring Training in Major League Baseball. The only news source which may have highlighted this on their main page was the official site of the NBA, and luckily it was a slow night in The Association, or LeBron probably would have been demoted to page two of the NBA's homepage too.

I don't know if media outlets got the memo, but LeBron James isn't just another player to break the 10,000 points mark...he's the youngest in NBA history to do so.
